Pool day

This week the kaupeka hub went to walthem pool. The weather was alright it was really cloudy a Gray  day but it was kinda muggy and warm with no wind so you wouldn't freeze when you get out and get dried. We hoped into the pool then played water polo for most of the time. After that we all got out for a break to dry off. Then our opportunity came to go onto the hydro slide. We all got our wrist band and ran up the stairs. We went down the slide it was kinda fast but it was short. Then our teacher went down the water slide it was really cool. After that we got dried and headed off back to school while having a really good day swimming.

This week in our writing workshop I made a Poem. I made a Haiku poem about a rugby game. It will just tell you about how I prepared for a really big rugby game that's happening. Here it is.

 I wake up today

 I walk downstairs like a bear 

 Ready for the game

 I eat my breakfast

 ready for the game today

 I hop in the car

 biting my fingers

 nervourse like never before

 We get to the park

 with the frosty grass

 I walk over to the team

 we stretch for the game

This week the Kaupeka hub went to the back field to do lots of these activities. We lined up in our groups to start our activities. We started at a puzzle game where you remember where you walked then you must get to the end. We keped going on with the activities until the water activities. The first one is where you have to tip water buckets behind you and the person behind you has to catch it. Then you must keep going until you get the water to this bucket at the back. The last water activity is where there is a pipe with holes in it and you must cover the holes with your finger. While some people are getting water to fill the pipe to the top. The goal is to get the pipe as high with water as you can before the timer goes out.

Tough kids

On Wednesday 3 quarters of the school went to tough kids. We all went on the bus down by new Brighton. We went into our line and we ran. The run was 2.7 k I think it was around that. There was some average obstacles but when the water obstacles came we all jumped int the water. After that we ran onto this really slippery water slide where we ran as fast as we can onto it. Then right before the end there was a bouncy castle that had a really big line but we waited. Once we got in there was a lot of people on it and people were falling over but we made it out and reached the end. Everyone was really wet so we got changed and waited in line to go back to school and work for the rest of the day.

Afternoon sport

Every Thursday from 1 to 3 the Kaupeka hub go out to play 4 sports. Someday you only play one sport. And on other days you play only 2 and no more. The first week we played korfball that is a sport where its like netball but you can only defend the same gender and other things like that. Then we have cricket. What you do is just have an over to bat then and over to bowl then you field for the rest of the game. Then there is lawn bowls and soft ball. Soft ball is where you hit the ball and the rest of the group is trying to catch the ball. And I haven't done lawn bowls yet.

Attitude

This week the whole kaupeka hub went into the hall to talk about puberty. The first session is where we talk about the physical part of puberty then the emotional part of the body. In the second session the girls and boys split off and talked about what happens to the body. It was sometimes awkward but the guy that was talking to us made it pretty fun for us.

The amp show

This week we had Friday off because our family went to the amp show. The amp show is where heaps of people gather together and get drinks go o rides check out things like furniture, wood work and much more. I met up with Flynn and Reuben to go and look at the dirt bikes then get these really big snow cones. After that they left then I went to the rides with my family. We went on this really cool ride where you go upside down. Then we started to head off so we went to the barns where there are lots of animals like sheep, cows, goats and much more. Then we left with lots of joy and happiness.

This week we made a recipe about our country. I got Scotland where I made one of their famous desserts Shortbread. Shortbread is a really nice dessert in Scotland that is a pastry type that will disintegrate into your mouth. School camp

Hello for the whole week of week 3 term 4 our whole hub went to camp. It was really fun we did a whole lot of things like Archery, Coasteering, and much more. we stayed there for 3 nights and 4 days. 

A challenge on camp for me was getting to the top of the high ropes course because im not a fan of heights unless im in a proper building but I still was on the bottom ones but that was pretty fun. Specially the one where there were bois that you had to get past.

A fun thing on camp was coasteering because even tho there were high winds and it was cold we had lots of fun and we got to jump off a really cool rock.

Something that I learned at camp was how to belay because what we had to do is to pull lock grab and slide and you must do that every time the person that is climbing up. But in the end I got the hang of it and it was successful.

Something that I am grateful for all the food that was bring to the table and the shelter that we have and I loved having all the activity because we are jampacked with activitys

How to do a drop kick

Today I will be showing you how to do a drop kick with a rugby ball. Here are some step by strp instructions on how to drop kick a rugby ball. hopefully this will help you with kicking a ball over the posts or just kicking the ball down the field.

1. Grab a rugby ball 

2. Find a field about 100 m by 50 m

3. Hold the ball facing up

4. Have a little run up about 3 m 

5. Throw the ball up about 10 mm

6. Put your leg back ready to kick. 

7. Then when the ball hits the ground 

8. You kick it as hard as you can

This term for our PBL driving question it is how can we celebrate ourselves.

We will be talking about our culture and where we came from. We will also be talking about where our ans esters came from and about our family being in the war. I'm not sure where my ancestors are from. We will be making an art piece and a music piece about who you are and what you enjoy like hobbies and much more. I will be making a rugby rap and for my art piece I will be making a rugby stadium with a rugby person kicking a ball over the post.

This week we went and had to log on to a online student course. and there are six sets of lessons. they talked about what is so cool about maths. So first they talked about what people think about maths. Lot of people thought it was cool. Then they talk about how the brain grows when you learn maths twice a day. Then they did studies about people who want to do easy problems and people who want to do hard problems and found out that the people who did the hard problems had more chance of growing and succeeding.

This week me and mt pbl partner made a planning template about what our future building will look like. First we made some pictures and showed the teachers what it will look like. Then we decided that we will make the people in the building safe. So we are going to make it fire proof, water proof, and earthquake proof. And we are trying to make it futuristic but not to he point that people can not use the building due to how futuristic it is.

This week our hub made an advertisement about R.E. Before we started the poster we talked about what sacraments there are. Then we made a poster about our school to get the hang of making digital posters. Then we decide what website to make the poster from. I ended up using canva. Its a really cool website where you can make Instagram story, Posters, Notes and many more. Then I choose Reconciliation then started making it. Here is what it turned out to be.

Science Investigation

This week we made a fizzy and mentos experiment. What we had to do is to get couple of mint packs and some fizzy drinks. I got Coke, Fanta, Diet coke, and Pepsi. Then we line them up and we put about 4 to 5 mentos into the fizzy drink then time how long the explosion lasts for. Here is a science method chart about my experiment Scientific method

This week me and my friends went to Ferry mead to help people in need. So what we did is walked down isles and grabbed food and put them into boxes. We got food like chips, crackers, weetbix. Then once we fill the box with food we bring the boxes to some lifters and stack the boxes up for other people to put in a truck to serve to the poor.

Winter sport final.

This week for winter sport I had the rugby final againsed St Martins. I was kinda nervous a the time but I was exited evermore. We kicked off and it was a good game. It was about 2-1 to Mt Martins. Then it was the last 10 minutes of the first half we started to get lots of tries. The score was about 5-3  to us. The first half is over and I have scored 3 tries. The second half starts we are up by two or three tries and we score a try. It is about 7-4 to us then we got lots of momentum and we started to score every five minutes. Then at the full time whistle went off we celebrated humbly and said three cheers and the end score turned out to be about 12-4 to us.

This week we did a reading evidence slide and you write a paragraph about the story problem.

In the baseball final it's the last play of the game welton high school is down by a lot by eastern heights. And another home run by eastern heights. Welton high is not happy because eastern heights have won with every sport. Than welton high made a new game called new image rugby. It's basically like rugby except you touch people instead of tackling.

This week for science we tested out if ice cues make the water rise or sink. So we filled water into a jar at the 200ml mark. And put 1 ice cube in. But nothing happend so then we made a  doc with a scientific method in it and we put that the ice cube did not affect the water.

This week me and my friends went down to a retirement village called Dianna Issac. We walked down and it only took 15 minutes to walk down. Before we walked down we got to choose what to do. I ended up choosing to do balloon sports. What we had to do is to play volley ball with the people there and it was really fun. And then we said our good byes to the old people and set off on for to school.\

This week we did art. We have to do a google drawing of a self portrait of your self. Mine unfortunately mine did int turn out right at all because it looked liked a monster.  But I think if I maybe stuck to the task more I think I could of done a more of a good job. Winter sport

This year for winter sport I am doing soccer. Even tho I play rugby on a Saturday I wanted to see what soccer is like. It is pretty fun but it can get boring just say if you are goalie and all the action is on the other side of the field it would be pretty boring but if its the other way round it can be really fun if you maybe play striker that is when just say you are on attack and your in the middle of the field and then you can shoot and score. But my position is left wing its basically like striker but your on the wing.

This week we have to do the same reading create task and you do the same thing like look at the authors opinion then yours then the similarities but this time I did it on climate change. unfortunately I cant find to the slide to show it. But we need to stop global warming and what ever you do dont litter. Maybe if you are at a park and someone litters you should tell them to pick it up because they are harming the world.

The first thing that you had to do was find out why the author does int want to or does want rep teams then you write that down. when your finished with that then you write down your opinion on it. and I said that we should have rep teams but you could have a b team so if some people miss out. This week we have to share a poster to our family saying what we are doing for our pbl. I used a site called canva and I said the time date what cloths you have to wear and I wrote what we are doing for our pbl. And I wrote we are going live for a day and I said what I am going for pbl. Yesterday on the third of July I shared a speech about racism. I talk about what racism is and how we can stop it. We had to stand up and talk about it in front of an audience and a computer recording you and it goes live out to all of New Zealand. And my speech was 4 Minutes and 5 seconds.

teacher strike

Last Wednesday the teachers went off to a teacher strike. They wanted more money and less paper work. While I went for a surf with my friends. We went to new Brighton beach and surf was huge but we still got out. When we came back in we went to get burgers and chips. then we got home for a nice spa and we jumped in our freezing pool. Then we all went home and had a great day at the beach

This week I went surfing in the freezing cold weather. Me and my friends went out to Scarborough. The surf looked alright it was 2 foot and pretty clean. We got into our wetsuits and ran down to the beach. We were looking forward to the surf then when when we put our toes in the water we all screamed because of how cold the water is. We said we will get use to it then we put our heads in and we got the brain freeze of our life. We surfed for about half an hour but it was still a good surf and we had fun.

This week we had to create a reading task but i couldn't do the reading task because I had break out edu the gloss tests and other stuff like that.

This week we had to do a challenge where we had to find things and unlock a box. I did it with Brent Ethan glen and other people. One of the locks I remember is that you had to have arrows and you had to move the lock up down left and right. And the rest were basically like numbers and letters. We ended up opining the final box in 13 minutes and 14 seconds.

Term 2 tech

This term for tech I am doing food and food is probably my favourite of them all. We made lots of things like wedges burgers salads but now we are moving on to stuff like bread. Last week we made bread sticks and they are so good we made a batch of 16 but we split the dough so we got 8 each.

This term we are doing a speech about discrimination. I am doing one about racism and how we can stop it. Our goal is to have the speech at least 3 minutes and 4 the maximum. I aimed for 4 minutes and I timed myself and my speech ended up 4 minutes and 3 seconds. I just got over 4 minutes so that is good.

Cross country

Last week we had cross country. We all walked down to Walter park to start cross country. The year 8 boys were first and that was me. So we lined up and 3 2 1 and go we raced away the course was 3 km and it was very hard. In the end I ended up coming up 8th but that was alright.

last weekend it was my sisters birthday. She got money,a fake piano,A chair and lots more. She didn't  have a party but as a family we ended up going to dinner. The place was called tonys teppenyaki it is a really nice place and I had 100 g of ticken 90 grams of beef and 90 grams of venison. My sister had the same so did my mum but my dad had the same but with fish.

This term our driving question is discrimination. Its when you are racism sexism elitism and lots more. Lots of these types of discrimination have been going on for lots of years now. what I am doing for my pbl is a tad talk about racism and it will be a really good speech.

My bad surfing year

Most years in the summer when me and my Dad go surfing we usually go surfing every week because the surf is up to date. But not this year because at the start of the surfing season we went out to Waikiki beach and the waves were good. Me and Dad were pumped and we got out and got in the water and then the wind picked up at the speed of light and it turned to crap. But we ended up getting three surfes in this year and that is pretty bad but I hope next year the surf is always good.

This week we did swimming sports. I did fifty metre freestyle, fifty metre backstroke, fifty metre breast stroke, and fifty metre butterfly. That adds up to 200 metres and that pretty hard as well as changing styles as you go. I made it in to the a group and that was with people who can swim fifty metres or more.

Leadership group

This week our Leadership groups was announced. A couple of weeks before we had to write in our books about what Leadership group we want to be in. My first pick was PALS and the order was PALS,Media,STEM,Google rs,Environmental,Arts but I ended up in Stem and that is my third choice. STEM team stand for Science Technology Engineering and maths. This term we are focusing on an epro8 challenges every Thursday at lunch time.

Last weekend me and Reuben went to film a ad of KFC. We filmed it in the ami stadium. What we had to do is to pretend that we had to cheer because there was a rugby game and people that work at KFC gave us chicken and we had to eat it with our left hand. It was a lot of fun and me and Reuben had so much chicken because at the end we got to eat as many pieces of chicken as we can and also a bonus is we get to be on TV in 6 weeks.

Swimming lessons

This week and next week we are swimming. And im in the top group and its a lot of fun because we can do two or more laps. On Monday we had to do one length of butterfly one length of back stroke one length of breast stroke and one last length of freestyle. And its a lot of fun and we have to collect a year 1 or 2 buddy to help and take charge of. And today we had to do 500 m of whatever we want and it was so fun but also exhausting. But it was really fun and I enjoyed it.

Surfing

Last weekend my Dad I went surfing. We went up to Kaikoura for the weekend and had lots of fun. We went out for dinner, had lunch, went out on the boat, and heaps of other stuff. But when we were on the boat we saw swell coming into the bay so me and Dad got our surfboards and went surfing. There is this place called Coutra and there was three foot sets. We had lots of fun and I caught twelve waves and got demolished by the sets but it was really fun.
